Director Joel Ivanys clear, persuasive production of the well-known opera is only missing some fire and spontaneity. Thats partly the fault of the lack of chemistry between leads Anita Rachvelishvili and Russell Thomas (there are alternate casts) and Paolo Carignanis often sluggish conducting. But the climactic final act, opened up to include the audience, is stunning.
