Winnipeg’s Comeback Kid play both types of hardcore – fast and faster – with all the subtlety of a concrete saw on a Saturday morning. Not necessarily a bad thing, with lead singer Scott Wade coming eerily close to Billy Talent’s Ben Kowalewicz’s guttural scream on every track, and ex-Figure Four guitarist Andrew Neufeld providing the same lightning-fast lines through the entire length of this 25-minute set. Their message about the underdog always getting back on his feet is noble, but their rote efficiency and complete lack of hooks gets kinda tired. Crank it up and a good slamfest is sure to ensue, but with no identifiable riffs or catchy choruses to sing along with, all you’ll remember is how much your shins hurt as you hobble home.
