DANIEL WESLEY

Rating: NNN

Daniel Wesley’s sophomore album gives the impression that the Vancouver rocker would really, really like to be on Chad Kroeger’s 604 label. Wesley and the Kroeg-man definitely have comparable husky baritones, and stadium-ready power rockers like Untitled #2 are as crotch-based as anything Theory of a Deadman ever blast-ed. But Wesley ventures where even Nickel-back dare not: reggae stoner rock.

Wesley puts all those ganja-filled hours of listening to Sublime to productive use on the rock-steady Ooo Ohh and the dubbed-out verse on So Fine. He hits his stride on Radio (presumably titled for its FM dial readiness), but practically sinks the entire effort with an atrocious rock molestation of Ginuwine’s My Pony. Kroegs would not approve.

Wesley plays the Reverb Friday (March 7) as part of CMW.
