DANNY KRIVIT

DANNY KRIVIT Expansions (NRK) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNNN

New York house legend Danny Krivit checks in with a two-CD DJ mix that covers a wide variety of sounds but keeps to a fairly mellow mood. Lush jazz-inspired tracks filled with live instrumentation sit surprisingly well beside more synth-driven songs like 808 State’s classic Pacific State. There’s a heavy Latin influence through much of the mix, as well as references to deep tech house and nu-jazz. It’s the kind of album that works well as a sitting-at-home chill-out mix, but at louder volumes it reveals itself to be funky and danceable, too. Perfect for those who like the mood and sonic palette of soulful house but aren’t ready for gospel-style wailing vocals.
