As a Scotsman now based locally, David Leask comes by his celtic influences honestly, though given the mission statement behind Ancestors’ Eyes — exploring his roots and those of his clan — he could have safely upped the whistle ‘n’ fiddle quotient and emerged with a stronger disc. Songs coloured by the old country have more fire than the slightly anemic but presumably more commercial, and dominant, folk/pop laid out here. Pleasant in the extreme. Leask releases Ancestors’ Eyes Tuesday (May 30) at the Rivoli.
