As I nodded off to Stoned, the second song off moody cooer Dido’s follow-up to the super-selling No Angel, I couldn’t help marvelling at the aptness of the track name. The monotonous Brit’s tunes always had the same effect on me as pot – vaguely pleasant, but mostly soporific, lethargic and mildly paranoia-inducing. Life For Rent follows the same formula as Dido’s last disc, with gauzy vocals, repetitive melodies and chill-out beats that sound like they’ve been in the freezer since 1997. She shows a spark of life on the poppy See You When You’re 40, but the rest had me checking my pulse.
