DJ KRUSH

Rating: NNN

A comprehensive three-DVD collection chronicling the long, hard journey of Japan’s DJ Krush, this is a solid piece of work revealing the dedication of the stern, focused record producer.

Artsy video clips of varying clarity capture Krush rocking Asia, Europe and America and exploring random natural environments while on tour. The Japanese-speaking DJ’s restrained yet real passion is evident. A variety of collaborators offer optimistic commentary, including Tragedy Khadafi, MC Finsta Bundy, Japanese rapper Rino, Sly and Robbie and DJ Shadow.

A wild-haired El-P rocking Japan and footage of Mos Def praying in the booth before enthusiastically freestyling are some of the more special moments, along with strangely hacked-up footage of the scruffy Anticon collective in their prime.

The discography and performance almanac make this DVD essential for DJ Krush junkies and curious heads. Disc one: origins, inspirations, and concert footage disc two: album-making process, collaborations and more concert footage disc three: video clips.
