Eva Avila’s debut record was reportedly made in three weeks and includes contributions from Damhnait Doyle, Jim Guthrie, Cyndi Lauper, Raine Maida, Chantal Kreviazuk and the guy from Len. That it doesn’t completely suck is no small achievement. In fact, given the circumstances, the Canadian Idol’s first album is a monumental success. Which is not to say it’s actually great. It is, more or less, a slightly above average collection of pop and R&B ballads with more influences than it knows what to do with. But don’t hold it against Avila, a sort of genetically engineered perfect pop star who’s probably capable of solving any future national unity crises. Blame Raine Maida. Or Zack Werner. Or the guy from Len.
