GORDIE TENTREES BAND

Rating: NNNN

Life in the Yukon presents many difficulties that we megacity urbanites can’t even begin to fathom, so when a band from that region drops an album, we’re tempted to assume it’ll be tough and hard. To be sure, the songs on 29 Loads Of Freight embrace the Yukon landscape and lifestyle, conjuring images of the Great White North with a rocking, blues-based rockabilly backdrop that’ll leave you wanting to chop trees and eat flapjacks. Yet for all the energy the full-tilt tunes generate, it’s the mellower, introspective numbers that really hit home, showing that Gordie Tentrees’d be a musical force to be reckoned with no matter where he hailed from. The Gordie Tentrees Band play the Cameron tonight (Thursday, March 3) as part of CMW.
