Grizzly Bear

Rating: NNNN

Lo-fi and laptops don’t often make for the comfiest of bedmates, but on this debut from dream warriors Grizzly Bear, the two methods get it on like a pair of drunken teens on prom night. The result: a sprawling 14-track collection of moody bleep folk filled with telephone-booth vocals, found-sound percussion and languid acoustic fugues. In fact, it sounds like this Brooklyn duo recorded hours of piano, vocals and guitar on a ghetto blaster, shunted the tapes into their computer and proceeded to give the results the old slice ‘n’ dice treatment. It’s music Syd Barrett might’ve made if he’d been given Pro Tools instead of tranquilizers. Grizzly Bear play Healey’s Wednesday (February 16).
