Haale is known for her innovative combination of Sufi rhythms with the more digestible conventions of pop rock. She cites the dreamlike, mystical quality of both psychedelia and Persian poetics as major influences, and hopes her sound expresses how truly unique she is.
If you buy that, maybe you’ll buy the record, too. Haale’s voice is good, but not good enough. And her songwriting is almost convincing, but then a dramatic instrumental ascent swells to meet her voice and it’s all over.
Haale plays Lula Lounge Friday (April 4).
