HARRISON KENNEDY

Rating: NNNN

Hamilton native Harrison Kennedy’s debut disc jump-starts with a spirited request to an attractive lady he seeks to call his baby (Let Me Call You). Moving right along, the richly textured and subtly nuanced Everybody Gets The Blues is a classic blues track with one hand holding onto tradition, the other pulling toward tomorrow. Kennedy’s rounded, joyful voice hums over the harmonica-heated High Country Blues, and just as this traditional tribute tune ends, the bubbling bass line and organic organs of The Jones move in a new direction.

Musicians Keith Lindsay, Justin Dunlop and Brian Griffith add to the seven instruments Harrison “Sweet Taste” Kennedy plays with inspired passion. A true blues album that peaks with the high-register singing and whistling on Don’t Set Your Mind To Worryin’. Nice.

Harrison Kennedy is at the Silver Dollar Saturday (November 3).
