Tina Turner will always deserve a place to share her inimitable sound her cover of Edith And The Kingpin shines with controlled power and grace. Corinne Bailey Rae reinforces reasons for her impending explosion on the title track, hitting registers we’ve never heard her explore before and leaving trails of desire in her wake.
Instrumental versions of Miles Davis and Duke Ellington gems embellish this collection, while Wayne Shorter’s saxophone work remains as soft, sharp and soul-stirring as ever. Leonard Cohen’s rusty utterances definitively conclude this disc, and Mitchell even shows up to her own celebration, giving her signature to this sweetly soothing tribute.
