I MOTHER EARTH The Quicksilver Meat Dream (Universal) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN
I Mother Earth’s The Quicksilver Meat Dream reeks of earnest effort. Densely layered, overproduced and experimental, it’s less funky than early efforts, leaning more toward early-90s industrial, metal and prog until track eight, Juicy. Then things funk up a bit. There’s some all right musicianship here, reminiscent of days when rock was young and good. Despite the texture and changes, however, Meat Dream mostly manages to sound tired and boring. There’s just too much earnest yelling and quiet yearning on Brian Byrne’s part.
