Jets Overhead

Rating: NNN

No Nations finds Victoria, BC, rockers Jets Overhead trying to build on their 2007 Juno nod for best new group and the success of their second disc, Bridges.[rssbreak]

Still favouring dark and moody atmospheric indie rock, No Nations is an uneven offering. Opener I Should Be Born is a spacey, fuzzed-?out Dandy Warholesque jam that doesn’t go anywhere interesting.

Immaculate lead guitars, a catchy bass line and a winning duet chorus redeem the band on the stellar Heading For Nowhere. On other songs, like Weathervanes and Time Will Remember, Jets err on the side of plodding psych rock that requires a patient listener. The title track, a brooding post-?apocalyptic tune with a killer guitar lick, nods to the band’s under-explored British shoegaze influences.

Top track: Heading For Nowhere

Jets Overhead fly into the Horseshoe June 9.
