For most artists, a 10-song album that clocks in at less than 40 minutes might be a symptom of songwriter’s constipation, but with John Fogerty – whose best albums are all under 35 minutes – the 34-minute run time of Deja Vu All Over Again is a clear sign that he’s back on track. And with the U.S. refighting Vietnam, he’s chosen the right moment to end his seven-year hiatus with an incisive anti-war lament that recalls past classics Fortunate Son and Who’ll Stop The Rain. Most of the brilliantly recorded album sounds like archetypal Fogerty, right down to the familiar riffs, which should please Creedence fans. There are three clunkers, but then, if you’re batting .700, who’s complaining?
