JULIE DOIRON

JULIE DOIRON Heart And Crime (Endearing Records) Rating: NN Rating: NN

Dead set on being the Claudine Longet of the quiet-is-the-new-loud crowd, sensitive emo-chanteuse Julie Doiron follows her French-language turn, Désormais, by taking down the mood a few notches for her whisper-wistful Heart And Crime disc. The stripped-down approach might’ve worked for someone with a captivating voice or compelling songs, but for Doiron the austere arrangements underscore her dull singing and the banality of her tunes. She plays C’est What Friday (April 19).
