by David Hirson (Soulpepper). Two actors compete for survival when their Royal Patron grows weary of their theatre troupe in this comedy. Previews from May 16, opens May 29 and runs to Jun 22, see website for times. $32-$96.
Hirsons 1991 homage to classic French farce gets a jolt of revelance its plot about a vain, boorish writer/actor (Gregory Prest) who cons hits way into a 17th-century court comments on both Trump and the companys own disgraced former artistic director. Sometimes the laughs feel forced, but under director Tanja Jacobs the leads are strong and the design is full of nice touches.
