LILY FROST

LILY FROST Situation EP (Trademark) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Nu-lounge crooner and Kinnie Starr cousin Lily Frost returns to form with this short, sweet set of innocuous bossa-tinged pop ditties. While the cover art suggests pink umbrella’d cocktails and coconut bras at Club Med, the vibe of the album is more shopping at American Eagle or Urban Outfitters, which can be equally pleasant in its own way. Therein lies my issue with Frost, however. See, she’s a solid instrumentalist with a good voice who writes decent songs, but she’s really not the reincarnation of Astrud Gilberto, as she’d like us to believe – she’s more of a pop tartlet à la Bahamanian-born Heather Nova or Leona Naess. I just don’t buy the swingin’ bachelor pad shtick. Lily Frost brings her Situation to C’est What Saturday (December 13).
