Will Maximo Park ever release a new record? Judging from the way they’re milking their debut disc, A Certain Trigger, it doesn’t look like it. First came the record, next an album of B-sides, and now a forgettable DVD. Found On Film could have worked if this English five-piece had had a few albums under their belt, but they play the same old tunes over and over again. There are three live sets here, one in front of what looks like thousands at Brixton Academy, another in Newcastle and a few tracks from a live studio session filmed for AOL. Throw in some music videos and an additional BBC sessions CD and you’ve got way too much Maximo Park I Want You To Say gets played five times. To make matters worse, this is not a great live band. Save for lead singer Paul Smith, the group barely break a sweat onstage. The only thing of real value here is an intimate lo-fi film of the band eating, hanging out, getting interviewed and doing whatever else they do when they’re not playing Graffiti for the umpteenth time. It’s not that Maximo Park’s songs are bad – their debut disc is full of interesting new wave pop – but really, after 16 months the band should be concentrating on new songs instead of rehashing old ones.
