Megan Hamilton

Rating: NNN

Megan Hamilton’s swaying vocals and delicate acoustic strumming have a hippie tinge, but don’t toss her into the college coffee-house open-mic dustbin. See Your Midnight Breath is Hamilton’s first studio-produced full-length, recorded in just five days.

Her simple vocal lines benefit greatly from her backing band and from sound designer Mark Vogelsang, who recorded the instruments according to how they might sound in various places on a ship. (Visit meganhamiltonmusic.com for a detailed description.) Unfortunately, she doesn’t capitalize on the energy displayed on Detroit, a song from her recent EP, How We Think About Light. And that leaves this disc without an anchor single.

Megan Hamilton plays CMF Thursday (March 12) at Rancho Relaxo.
