Paul Cargnello

Rating: NNN

I’m not a big fan of having people’s political opinions shoved down my throat, so it’s nice that for this record Montreal poet, musician and political activist Paul Cargnello has toned down the preachiness from his debut solo offering, Lightweight Romeo (definitely a contender for dumbest title ever), and those of his former band, the Vendettas. The self-proclaimed punk poet has one of those smoky, rough-edged voices, and he can construct a fine arrangement. Acoustic and for the most part simple, this is a collection of impressively catchy tunes that explore the territory of folk-punk, reggae, blues and rock as Cargnello flops around between languages as well as evils.
