PAUL
McCartney Back In The U.S.
(Capitol/EMI) Rating: NN Rating: NN
As far as the Paul McCartney song factory goes, it’s been a matter of diminishing returns for years now. At least the aging moptop realizes it and primarily sticks to his Beatles and Wings favourites on the two-disc Back In The U.S. live Christmas cash-in. There’s no sincere attempt at creative reinvention here the bluesy piano intro to The Long And Winding Road is as playfully daring as it gets. McCartney just delivers the tunes everyone wants to hear the way they remember them, oblivious to how the passage of time has contributed to the irony of Fool On The Hill and the creepiness of I Saw Her Standing There. Does anyone really need another Beatles hits collection?
