by Marie Beath Badian (Thousand Islands Playhouse/Factory). Love is blind in Saskatchewan so blind in fact you can get confused with whom you are in love. Prairie Nurse is riotous comedic farce of a different colour about two Filipino nurses who arrive in 1960s small-town Saskatchewan to work at a local hospital and are met by some curious locals who struggle to tell them apart. Previews from Apr 21, opens Apr 26 and runs to May 13, Tue-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 pm. $30-$50, preview $20.

MINI REVIEW

Beath Badians new romantic comedy begins with the arrival of two young Filipina nurses, Indepencia (Isabel Kanaan), and Purificacion (Belinda Corpuz), at a small-town hospital in Saskatchewan in the 1960s, where the lively staff struggle to tell the two apart. Highlighting the micro-aggressions that many new Canadians face, the two nurses, who are markedly dissimilar, get into a string of awkward and telling mistaken-identity situations. The sitcom-like action gets particularly messy (and very funny) when Wilf (Matt Shaw), a young lab tech, falls in love with one nurse but botches his overtures due to yet another mix-up.
