Torontonians are giving Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent some mixed reviews after the anticipated first episode aired Thursday night.

The new drama follows the Specialized Criminal Investigations team of detective duo Detective Sergeants Henry Graff and Frankie Bateman who investigate high-profile crime and solve the city’s most infamous murders.

Based on its official trailer, some of the show’s cases are influenced by real-life headlines and scandals that made waves in the city’s political landscape.

Season one includes ten stories with each episode kicking off with a cold open describing what the case will be about. Creators say, similar to the original Criminal Intent, the series will interrogate the “why” and “how” behind the crime, not just the “who.”

The first episode aired last night and it received a slew of mixed reviews. Some users pointed out the fact that right off the bat the show’s famous introduction mispronounces how residents say Toronto and says it the tourist way, with the pronunciation of the second ‘T’.

“Disappointed, the Law & Order Toronto intro pronounces ‘Toronto’ like someone not from Toronto,” one user said.

“Am I excited for Law & Order Toronto? Of course. Do I also need them to teach the voiceover man how to pronounce Toronto authentically? Absolutely!” another user commented.

Others say they are not fond of Detective Graff’s accent in the show.

Despite some of the criticism, many fans did enjoy the first episode and are tuning in for the rest of the season.
