Quantic

All the remix work Will “Quantic” Holland has been doing outside of the Quantic Soul Orchestra and Limp Twins is clearly paying off in more than extra record-buying cheese. Judging by the vast improvement Mishaps Happening shows over the previous Quantic collections of amorphous groovescapes, his own songwriting has benefited greatly. Besides being by far the most consistent Quantic solo venture yet, switching easily from Afrobeat to jazzy soul structures, the adventurously funky set also gets a vocal boost from frequent collaborator Alice Russell and the legendary Spanky Wilson. Holland used his vinyl-pusher connections to track down the largely forgotten soul sister, believing she was the only woman who could properly deliver a song like Don’t Joke With A Hungry Man. She nailed it. Bring on the Spanky album!
