There have recently been many discussions about power and privilege in the music community. Most of these conversations have been online. They have been wrought with hostility and animosity from all ends. A lot of people have questions. A lot of people are tired of giving the answers. If we are to move forward as a supportive, empathetic community of music creators, producers, consumers and critics, we need to have a better understanding of the systemic issues that are unique to Canadas multi-cultural landscape. This panel is an attempt and a hope at moving forward as some kind of community.
Panel discussion on racism, power and privilege in the music community with alaska B (Yamantaka//Sonic Titan), Chris Derksen (cellist), Damian Abraham (Fucked Up), Max Mohenuy (Pitchfork), Simone Schmide (Fiver & Highest Order), Kim De Laat (media and culture sociologist, U of T) and moderator April Aliermo (Hooded Fang & Phedre). 7-9 pm. Pwyc. Everyone welcome.
