by Philip Ridley (Precisely Peter Productions). This comedy about a young couple desperate to own their own home looks at the perils of getting on the property ladder and consumerism gone mad. Previews from Feb 28, opens Mar 2 and runs to Mar 19, Tue-Sat 7:30 pm, Sun 3 pm. $35, previews $25.
This darkly funny satire looks at the high personal and financial costs of the urban real estate market. Jonas Widdifield and Julie Tepperman play naive newlyweds who accept a strange conditional offer of a free fixer-upper but must justify increasingly thorny moral conundrums with every room they renovate. Without getting preachy, Ridley looks candidly at consumerism, homelessness and class, but once the plays main conceit is revealed, the script runs out of surprises.
