Slipknot

Rating: NN

The Slipknot era is beginning to feel like some sort of Y2K glitch, and their screams of “Now it’s over” during their intro track seem to indicate some awareness of this. Truthfully, their concept rules, and so do their riffs a lot of the time. Producer Rick Rubin often gets a good sound for them, but he can’t do anything about the occasional synth element that sucks mad balls, rapping that makes Kid Rock sound like Skillz, and shoddy quiet/loud-intensity sessions that have been firmly co-opted by Christian nu-metal. Beyond that, they remain decent, masked and angry.
