Soundscapes

Rating: NNNNN

It takes balls to quit your hated accounting job to pursue your love of music by opening a store that sells quality independent recordings, but that’s exactly what Soundscapes owner/operator Greg Davis did six years ago. Tired of overplayed indie tunes, he created a store that represented all the great music that wasn’t being played on the Edge. Ever since its grand opening, the College Street music store has been rammed. Sales increase every month the racks keep expanding and new shelves are added on. The wide selection – including strong soul and jazz sections – appeals to all ages and income brackets. Keep your eyes peeled: customers include everyone from Sloan and Broken Social Scene to Lucy Liu and Harrison Ford. You never know who might be shopping next to you. Davis’s picks : Pavement: Perfect Sound Forever, $23.99 Wayne McGhie And The Sounds Of Joy, $17.99 Candi Staton, $17.99 the Ponys: Laced With Romance, $18.99 Iron & Wine: Our Endless Numbered Days, $14.99.

Look for : A choice selection of quality CDs, local indie rock scenesters and convenient late-night hours.

Store hours : Monday to Thursday 10 am to 11 pm, Friday and Saturday 10 am to midnight, Sunday 10 am to 10 pm. 572 College, 416-537-1620
