STITCHES (eOne, 2012) D: Conor McMahon, w/ Ross Noble, Tommy Knight. Rating: NNNN Blu-ray package: NNN Rating: NNNN
Stitches, a low-rent clown, takes a knife to the head courtesy of a prank by some 10-year-old wankers at the birthday party he’s working. Six years later he crawls out of the grave, finds the same kids (now teens at another party) and takes his vengeance as only a clown can.
This entails killings that echo failed tricks from the earlier party. There’s a rabbit pulled from somewhere that isn’t a hat, a spectacular bit with an umbrella and much more. They’re all funny, creative and rich in well-done graphic gore.
As Stitches, comedian Ross Noble knows how to work the makeup and his body for laughs. Sometimes Stitches is the sadistic slasher, other times he lapses into his clown act like he’s forgotten what he’s doing.
The making-of doc shows how much fun everyone had on the set.
