Street Dogs

Rating: NNN

There must be some municipal law in Boston saying those who join punk bands must spend their musical existence proving how street-tough and Irish they are. No surprise that the blandly titled Street Dogs are led by Michael McColgan, ex-frontman for the Dropkick Murphys, the clover-leafed godfathers of this painfully repetitious form of punk.

Like a well-poured pint of Guinness, the Street Dogs will be a reliable pleasure for some. Gang vocals, no-frills chord patterns and nostalgic, repenting, good-Catholic lyrics about getting straight and missing old friends who didn’t. McColgan sounds sincere enough, which makes the Dogs difficult to put down. They just need to learn some new tricks.

Top track: Mean Fist

Street Dogs let loose at Kathedral March 6.
