L.A.’s tha Alkaholiks have been proudly rapping about all things related to alcohol for over 10 years, but on Firewater they claim they’ve guzzled their last brew on record — this is their ‘farewell album’ before they embark on three solo careers. From the sound of it, Tash and the gang are going out with a fizzle. They’re not shooting for crossover hits any more (remember their Neptunes track?), and their beats and rhymes reflect none of the punchliney fun they used to have. ‘Drink it, smoke it, party ya ass off,’ they stiffly repeat on Party Ya Ass Off. On Drink With Us, they rap off a lengthy list of rappers they’re down with, zero of whom show up for tha ‘Liks’ goodbye party. They sound bored — and worse, sober.
