Album reviews Music

Trentemller

Rating: NNNN

Trentemller’s second studio album is cinematic, sweeping and more organic than his past efforts. The Danish electronic musician has departed somewhat from the digital sheen of his remix work and EPs but still applies a minimalist aesthetic. Sparsely used vocals evoke barren plains, cold winds and forboding skies, especially on Even Though You’re With Another Girl, featuring Josephine Philip.

A strange beast, the album’s neither techno nor chill-out nor an outright venture into experimental instrumentalism. Instead, it deftly blends all three into a haunting, atmospheric listen. Then there are moments of unpredictable frenzy, as on Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!! Engrossing enough to captivate a range of music fans.
