Robert Wilsons production of Puccinis last opera appeals to the eyes, ears and intellect, but not the heart. There are stark, stunning images, as well as great singing, especially from Tamara Wilsons eponymous, icy Chinese princess. But the way Wilson restricts the performers movements makes them appear like automatons and robs the opera of any emotional immediacy.
