UNDERWORLD

Rating: NNNN

Many Underworld fans were nervous about this release, the first album since the departure of DJ Darren Emerson. The good news is that they still sound like Underworld, and the album is very good. They continue to create a collision of different musical ideas from techno and house to blues and pop, but this time around things sound more organized, stripped-down and pure. If you never paid attention to them before, this is a great starting place, and if you’ve been a long-time fan, you won’t be disappointed either. Very smart but also very accessible electronic pop music that blows most other attempts at techno-pop out of the water.
