From the opening harmonica blast, Down The Road is classic Van Morrison. Fiesty, funky and fearless on the microphone once again, Morrison is going where the lonesome gypsy voices and the pipes of ancient past lead him and he’s found his way back to the blues, country and R&B that inspired him with nods to Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Gene Chandler and Mose Allison. He’ll never cut another Astral Weeks or Tupelo Honey but if you can handle the dippy backing vocals, you’ll find Down The Road a rewarding trip.
