W. (Oliver Stone) Rating: NN
If from Oliver Stone’s new feature, W., you expect a howler of a comedy or a baroque portrait of unbridled stupidity, forget it. You’ll have to settle for a sympathetic portrait of a true believer used and abused by his White House team.

The villains (Richard Dreyfuss as Cheney, Scott Glenn as Donald Rumsfeld) are terrific, and Josh Brolin is brilliant as the dim guy who made it to the White House.
But Stone focuses very little on how he got there and not at all on the events of 9/11, concentrating instead on Dubya’s bad old college days and his relationship with his father. You’re almost rooting for the guy, for god’s sake.
It’s all hard proof that Stone has gone way soft. A major disappointment.
