WHITE COWBELL OKLAHOMA

Rating: NNN

If I’m ever cornered and asked to identify what I’d consider to be “whiskey and beer drinkin’, fightin’ and humpin’ music,” along with Skynyrd and Nashville Pussy, I think it’d be fair to include Toronto’s big and blustery White Cowbell Oklahoma, mostly because of their affinity for dirty, roaring bluesy punk ‘n’ roll. On Casa Diablo, the band continues to write high-energy rock that should fit nicely into their theatrical, sexified, drunk-rock-type live show. Songs like Fly Away and She Likes To Boogie are solid odes to gritty Southern rock, while Koko Girl is a slinky head-nodder. Though not a heart-stopping record, the band seems to know what works for them.

White Cowbell Oklahoma turn Lee’s Palace into their own Casa Diablo Saturday (December 16).
