Cher and Vegas were made for each other. Seriously. Between her cosmetically enhanced alien physique, her penchant for towering wigs and ridiculous feathery costumes, and her drag queen bellow, the woman was born to perform for throngs of blitzed slot-machine junkies in a fabulous casino theatre. So this DVD, which features a made-for-TV special shot during Cher's 89 Heart Of Stone tour at the glitzy Mirage in Sin City, captures the pre-Believe diva in her natural habitat. Flanked by barely dressed dancers who look like they escaped from Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation video, Cher struts through theatrical hits like If I Could Turn Back Time, Perfection, All Because Of You and Bang Bang (for old time's sake). They all sound dated in a sad late-80s hair metal, guitar solo way, but that's kind of not the point - we're talking about a show where a transsexual Cher impersonator comes onstage to trade pouts with the real Cher. The DVD is stuffed with extras, including a neat feature where you can click on a crown logo in the corner of the screen to view a blurry video of the song being performed in rehearsal. There's also handheld shaky-cam backstage footage, complete with Cher's commentary, a dumb blooper reel and post-tour interviews with the Heart Of Stone tour crew. The quality is middling at best, but this would be a fab gift for your favourite queen.
