Though greengrocers like Sun Valley on the Danforth are carrying more local produce than ever, this sprawling family-run grocery store – Toronto’s largest independent – has always been ahead of the curve. Sure, its shelves are stacked with some of the same cereal and spaghetti sauce you find in any blah Loblaws, but it also stocks Local Food Plus-certified Greenbelt-grown veggies, meat and milk in refillable bottles, much of it organic. Ace, St. John’s and Dufflet baked goods, too.
