Black Hoof chef van Gameran gone

Arguably Toronto’s most celebrated beanery, the Black Hoof (928 Dundas W, at Gore Vale, 416-551-8854, theblackhoof.com) has just announced that co-owner/chef Grant van Gameran is no longer affiliated with the west-side resto.

“It’s true,” tweets former partner Jennifer Agg. “Grant has left the Hoof in an amicable split.”

Amicable split is one of the vague phrases like musical differences that’s often used to put a happy spin on a messy divorce. Van Gameran is keeping his cards close to his chest and isn’t saying what he’ll be doing next.

“It’s been amazing feeding all you over the years,” tweeted the shy charcutier earlier today. “Please follow me @grantvangameren.”

Just two months ago, Agg and van Gameran had attempted to transform their popular Hoof Café brunch spot into BHCO – Black Hoof and Company – but they pulled the plug on the pricey prix fixe concept at the last moment, supposedly postponing the opening to spring 2012.

Brandon Olsen @King_of_Ginger – who apprenticed under Thomas Keller at French Laundry (frenchlaundry.com) in California – replaces van Gameran as Hoof head honcho.
