County Durham Brewing Company
County Durham doesn’t have a large public presence in downtown Toronto. No multi-tap tasting room or cozy pub resplendent with copper brewing kettles. To see where this stuff is made, you have to travel to a nondescript industrial unit in Pickering. That’s where proprietor, brewmaster, PR manager and delivery guy Bruce Halstead is busy creating his traditional English-style ales. To sample Durham ale in comfort, head to a T.O. bar that’s serious about beer there’s a good chance Halstead’s brews will be on tap, listed under the Durham name or as a C’est What product. You’ll probably be drinking a smooth, low-carbonation craft-made cask ale that looks to centuries of British beer-making tradition as its model.
