WHAT: Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet/Shiraz 2005 (red) Rating: NNNN
WHERE: South Australia
WHY: Considered the poor person's version of the iconic Penfolds Grange, currently selling for $368 at the LCBO. I don't know how many unrich people buy $37 wine, but this might be worth pawning a few knick-knacks for. The bouquet's a heady incense of blackberries and spicy oak. Fills the mouth with generous fruit and a vibrating seam of acidity, indicating cellar-worthiness. Very giftable.
PRICE: 750 ml/$36.95
AVAILABILITY: At selected Vintages outlets (product #309625)
