WHY: Chianti Classico is both a zone and a set of rules that define a style of wine made primarily with the Sangiovese grape. The first entry in our Drink Up Chianti competition is by a lesser-known producer, which probably helps explain the lower price. Compared to the Fontodi, this is a simpler wine, but that’s not a bad thing. Appetite-inducing, medium-light texture, relaxed: a fast and worthy friend.
