WHY: Old friends are the best friends. The Gourg has graced these pages before and probably will again as long as it keeps on delivering the appetizing combination of red and black berry fruit, black pepper and – weirdly but not unpleasantly – rubber, like rubber hose. Syrah, this wine’s dominant grape, often evokes that odd yet appropriate descriptor. Isn’t wine the damnedest thing?
