WHAT : Marques de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc (white) Rating: NNN
WHERE : Rueda, Spain
WHY : This week's Vintages release features Sauvignon Blancs, and this one by Riscal gets things started nicely. Made to drink young, these wines are typically described in terms of gooseberry and wet grass, but don't let that slow you down. Riscal is a nicely balanced, refreshing example of the grape. Great for summer.

WHAT : Mount Riley Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (white) Rating: NNNN
WHERE : Marlborough, New Zealand
WHY : In the case of Riley, that blanc expression on your face should be a smile. The bouquet just about leaps out of the glass with big, funky gooseberry fruit. This translates into excellent taste, offering some edge without getting too sharp. Another example of how NZ excels with Sauvignon Blanc.
