WHY: Number two in the Chianti competition comes from a more renowned Tuscan producer and has a commensurate price tag, but you get what you pay for, relatively speaking. Greater complexity is the point here, with earthy intrigue, a hint of smoke – as if somebody waved a few strips of bacon over the fermentation tank – and a slow-building plot of tastes and textures, concluding in an approachable but still Old World drinking experience.
