WHAT: Legón Crianza 2008 (red) Rating: NNNN
WHERE: Ribera del Duero, Spain
WHY: What's the label say? Crianza: this stipulates at least six months of oak aging (Legón received 14) and a total minimum age of three years. Ribero del Duero: a designated Spanish wine region recognized for the quality of its reds. Tempranillo: Spain's most important red wine grape. TMI? With sensations of wood, ripe, almost jelly-like fruit and a whack of structure, this is a great cellar starter at the price. Buy a case, put it in a cool dark place (not a dance club) and drink two or three every year, starting now.
