Drink up: The Nuevo Fashioned

This week, Bacardi showed us they can do food and cocktails well at a pop-up restaurant with Matty Matheson of Parts & Labour and Eileen Andrade of Miami’s Finka Table & Tap. For the next six weeks, we’ll reveal a different Cuban-inspired cocktail that accompanied the flavourful menu so you can make it at home.

First off, try this nuevo twist on the Old Fashioned:

The Nuevo Fashioned

  • 2 oz BACARDÍ 8 Años
  • 1 oz premium maple syrup
  • 6 dashes of Angostura orange bitters
  • 1 orange peel
  • Perrier sparkling water

Cut a 1.5-inch slice of orange zest and rub zest along the rim of the glass and spritz into the glass with the oils. Add the skin and gently muddle it to release more oils. Then add maple syrup bitters and rum and stir. Pack the glass with cubed ice and add a splash of sparkling water. Give the cocktail one last stir to make sure all of the ingredients are consistent throughout the cocktail. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry if you like.
